We all experience loss and grief differently but many of the issues we encounter after a bereavement are similar. Grief can be isolating and lonely and often it can help to meet others who are going through the same experiences. This is why we have started offering group support for bereaved people in Bedfordshire. Being amongst people who understand loss and are experiencing the similar challenges that living with grief brings can be reassuring.
Having the support and companionship of other bereaved people can help you feel less alone and make this difficult time easier to cope with. In a culture that often avoids talking about loss, the group will give you the opportunity to share your story openly and guilt-free. You also have the opportunity to hear the stories of others and talk about coping day-to-day.
The sessions are facilitated by experienced bereavement support volunteers who will create a safe and supportive environment. The group will be small with just 6-8 people and the approach is informal and friendly.
Each session will look at a specific topic and will be guided by the group facilitator but all group members will be encouraged to participate and share their thoughts and feelings. We appreciate that this may be difficult to begin with but listening to other people’s stories can be helpful too.
